A LEGEND
Cheer Up
This program involves creating safe spaces for legends to meet, interact, and support each other by exchanging psychosocial assistance and building social bonds for sustainability and wellness. Healthcare services are extended during these meetings, integrated with physical fitness sessions, storytelling, and gaming.
As part of this program, there are other activities that include:
Cheer Up
A LEGEND
Wetegekere
This program, stemming from the Luganda word "Wetekegere," meaning "prepare for yourself," focuses on ensuring legends are well-prepared for old age and retirement, both socially and economically.
This program has two major components:
A
WALK
to
legendary
living
This program involves documenting the lived realities of legends in the community, compiling stories from historical figures, and keeping an informed view of the movement's progress.
In this program, intergenerational dialogues are conducted to let young people learn and be mentored by legends. The documentation of community historical achievements and the movement at large is done through individual story compilations in the Legenquetale compendium and video documentaries.
&
LEGAL AID,
HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY
movement Building
The Proud Legends Initiative contributes to community databases and collective advocacy efforts against human rights injustices involving sexual minorities in Uganda. As part of the Strategic Response Team (SRT), the organization responds to human rights violence among older individuals by documenting cases and linking elderly persons to legal aid. Programs and projects are designed to promote community cohesion for advocacy.
Geriatric Care and Health Promotion
These health-related programs target the elderly, including those living with HIV, non-communicable diseases, and age-induced issues like menopause, bone problems, Alzheimer’s, and infertility, which could otherwise decrease the quality of life for legends. Age-related health videos are created, and the public is educated about aging, caring for the elderly, and preventing diseases through self-care.
Proud Legends Initiative is grateful for all the support, small and big towards the work of making the lives of older, middle aged and elderly minorities in Uganda better.
